Getinge has launched the Torin Plan Optimizer, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered decision support solution for surgical planning.

Beyond predicting procedure duration, the solution optimizes scheduling across ORs, surgical teams, and post-operative capacity. By identifying constraints earlier, it helps hospitals maximize surgical capacity, reduce disruptions, and keep procedures on schedule.

Hospitals face growing pressure to treat more surgical patients amid workforce shortages and rising demand. Misaligned procedure times, OR availability, surgical teams, and post-operative capacity can lead to delays, cancellations, and last-minute schedule changes.

Torin Plan Optimizer uses historical and operational data to optimize surgical planning across procedure times, surgical team and bed availability, and patient-specific post-operative needs. AI-generated recommendations help teams compare scheduling options and make adjustments while keeping clinicians in control of the final plan.

“Surgical planning involves balancing many interdependent priorities, making it difficult to see the full impact of planning decisions manually,” said Matthias Rath, Director of Product Management & Business Development OR Solutions at Getinge. “AI-powered decision support helps teams anticipate potential constraints before they become disruptions, giving them more time to adjust the plan, make better use of available surgical capacity and help keep care on track for patients who need it.”

In June, the company launched Fluobeam LS, growing its fluorescence imaging portfolio for small-incision surgery. Fluobeam LS was engineered for procedures like thyroid surgery and sentinel lymph node (SLN) detection in breast cancer.
